N.B. spending $9.2M on gender-based violence services

New Brunswick is spending more than $9 million on gender-based violence services.

The Women’s Equality 2025-2026 budget includes $9.2 million, which will be used to support employees, help with staff recruitment and stabilize organizations.

Some of the funding includes:

• $4.6 million for the transition house program, which helps people fleeing domestic violence
• $2.1 million for the Domestic Violence Outreach Program, which offers education, prevention and support services for victims of violence
• $1.5 million for the second-stage housing program, which provides longer-term safe housing for people affected by domestic violence
• $800,000 for community-based sexual violence services

“This year’s budget reflects our government’s firm commitment to building a safer, more equitable and inclusive society for all New Brunswickers,” said Lyne Chantal Boudreau, the minister responsible for women’s equality, in a news release. “This increase is necessary to meet growing demand across the province and to improve the response to gender-based violence by supporting organizations that provide direct services to those affected by violence.”
