N.B. man sentenced to 10 years in prison for kidnapping, extortion

A New Brunswick man has received a 10-year prison sentence after being convicted on kidnapping and extortion charges, according to an RCMP news release.

Police say they responded to a reported kidnapping and assault in Tobique First Nation in April 2024. They learned a 54-year-old woman was kidnapped at gunpoint, held against her will and assaulted.

Police made multiple arrests in connection with the incident. One of the suspects was Troy Pelkey from Tilley, N.B.

Police say Pelkey was convicted of kidnapping, extortion, forcible confinement, pointing a firearm and serious threats against a person on Dec. 30, 2025.

Last Friday, Pelkey was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He also received a 10-year prohibition on possessing firearms and was required to provide a DNA sample.
