The New Brunswick government has released a new action plan to boost agriculture’s contribution to the province’s economy. According to a news release, the plan prioritizes high-impact investments that strengthen competitiveness, expand export capacity and foster collaboration. Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Pat Finnigan said the plan has real potential to grow the sector and strengthen the economy. “This plan sets a clear path to unlock our province’s agricultural potential, and empowers producers, processors, industry, government and investors to drive much-needed growth and move New Brunswick forward as a hub for agricultural excellence,” he said in the release. New Brunswick Agriculture Growth Action Plan 2025-2030 includes three areas of focus: The province says the implementation and assessment of the plan will be guided by a steering committee, co-chaired by the department and the Agriculture Alliance of New Brunswick, drawing on expertise and insights from Indigenous communities, industry and other departments. “Our organization supports this government-led plan,” said Alexis Légère, president of the National Farmers Union in New Brunswick, in the release. “With a focus on improving access to farmland and increasing infrastructure and distribution options, this plan supports important steps toward achieving our goal of food sovereignty.” For more New Brunswick news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
