Workers at the Fredericton Boyce Farmers’ Market say they have found a “mystery tunnel” under the building during renovations. In a Facebook post, the market said they found the tunnel beneath the lobby. It stretches roughly two feet in diameter and is seven inches underground. “The tunnel stretches FAR beyond what we can see — disappearing into darkness, dust, and a truly impressive collection of ancient-looking cobwebs,” the post reads. Buffy Wasson, manager of the market, said an inspection led them to believe the tunnel is likely an old storm line. “Renovations in an old building always include a lot of unplanned discoveries,” Wasson said. “Given the many stories swirling around Fredericton of old tunnels underneath downtown and it was understandably an exciting discovery.” Sarah Ingersoll, a vendor, said she has never heard of any tunnels at the market during her 26 years there. “It’s surprising and exciting, kind of at the same time,” Ingersoll said.
