Man charged with murdering Moncton woman appears in court

A man charged with first-degree murder made a brief appearance at a New Brunswick court on Thursday.

The man charged with murdering a woman whose body was found inside a garbage bin two months ago made a brief court appearance in Moncton, N.B., Thursday morning.

Devlin O’Blenis was arrested on March 11 and charged with first-degree murder in the death of 39-year-old Melissa Price.

Price’s body was found in a garbage bin at the bottom of High Street in Moncton on Feb. 15.

O’Blenis’ lawyer James Matheson asked Judge Brigitte Volpé for more opportunity to speak to his client.

“The disclosure process has yet to begin,” said Matheson. “I’m told the disclosure is very luminous.”

Crown prosecutor Brad Burgess said disclosure would be available sometime next week and Volpé adjourned the matter until May 7.

O’Blenis has yet to make a plea.

Price’s parents, Pat and Peter, were present in the courtroom.

O’Blenis, 35, didn’t say a word during his appearance and neither did the Prices.

O’Blenis’ last court appearance was via telephone on April 2.

Afterwards, Peter Price spoke to reporters outside the courthouse.

“I pray, I believe in God, and I don’t think it’s my place to have vengeance, but I’m finding it really hard at my age not to jump over chairs and stuff. If I saw him today, I don’t know how I would react,” said Peter on April 2. “My youth is gone, but I’ve still got a lot of fire in my veins.”

The Prices politely declined to speak to the media on Thursday.

O’Blenis is one of three people charged in connection with the Moncton woman’s death.

Leandra Beaulieu, 36, was arrested on March 25 and charged with first-degree murder the next day. Her next court appearance is also scheduled for May 7.

Joshua Martin, 36, has been charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder and indignity to a human body. He made a brief court appearance on Monday and will return on April 27.
