Man arrested after driving ATV into police vehicle, fleeing: N.B. RCMP

A man who allegedly fled the scene after he drove his ATV into a police vehicle last month has been arrested.

RCMP officers were on patrol in Benton, N.B., when they saw a man driving an ATV without a helmet on July 25.

The 30-year-old was known to police and on several conditions, including being prohibited from driving and being bound by an ankle monitor, which police said he had cut off.

Officers tried to stop the man, identified as Edward (Eddie) Hayes, who then allegedly drove his ATV into a police vehicle and fled.

Police say the man then drove his ATV through the parking lot of the RCMP detachment in Woodstock and across the front lawn of the Woodstock provincial courthouse a short time later.

Both properties sustained minor damage.

Police released a photo of Hayes, who was last seen driving a camouflage ATV in the Woodstock area, in the hopes someone would recognize him.

In an update Saturday morning, police said Hayes has been arrested.

No details about his arrest have been released.
