The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is reviewing the circumstances after an inmate was assaulted at Dorchester Penitentiary in Dorchester, N.B. Sackville RCMP and the institution are also investigating the incident. According to a news release from CSC, an inmate was assaulted in the medium security unit on May 29. “The injured inmate was evaluated by staff members and transported to an outside hospital to receive treatment,” reads the release. No staff or other inmates were injured. CSC says the assailants have been identified, and “the appropriate actions have been taken.” It also says the safety and security of institutions, staff, and the public is the top priority of the federal correctional system’s operations.
