Former Fredericton MP Jenica Atwin has announced she will run for the city’s mayor this spring. Atwin was first elected in 2019 with the Green Party before she crossed the floor and joined the Liberals in 2021. In January 2025 she announced she would not be reoffering, in part due to online hate she received. Musician David Myles currently represents the region for the Liberals. Atwin says she will now run for Fredericton mayor in the May 11 municipal elections. “I love Fredericton. I know its value and potential and I want to protect the things that matter most,” she said in a video announcement posted to her social media. “With sensible, compassionate, and experienced leadership we can take on and overcome our challenges together, all while investing in Fredericton’s bright future.” Atwin added she will address the city’s current challenges while building its strong foundations. Current Fredericton Mayor Kate Rogers, who is the first woman to serve in the role, announced last month that she will not reoffer. For more New Brunswick news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
