These are the winners of Saint John’s Name the Plow contest

The votes are in and the winners of Saint John’s Name the Plow contest have been chosen.

The New Brunswick city teamed up with a local radio station earlier this month to launch the contest, which called on residents to help name four snowplows.

Common council came up with a list of 10 possible names and, after two weeks of online voting, these are the winners:

• Scoop There It Is
• Ctrl + Salt + Delete
• Clearopathra
• Marco Plowo

The city said the names will soon be displayed on the sides of four snowplows with custom decals.

“More than just a playful winter tradition, the contest brings the community together to celebrate the hardworking plows that keep the city moving all season long,” said the City of Saint John in a statement.

Saint John last held a Name the Plow contest in January 2023, when it called on residents to submit names for four snowplows. After receiving 1,000 submissions, the city decided to name eight plows, rather than four.

Residents were then asked to vote for their favourites from a shortlist of 22 names. Some of the winning names in 2023 included “Plow Chicka Plow Plow,” “Skip the Ditches” and “Reversing Snowfalls.”

Saint John said its fleet clears snow and applies salt, sand and brine to 1,160 lane kilometres of road – longer than the distance from Saint John to Ottawa – every winter. It also maintains 225 kilometres of sidewalk.
