Additional security measures lifted at Moncton hospital following report of threats

A Moncton hospital had additional security after threats were made on Monday.

Additional security measures in place at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton, N.B., have been lifted following a report of threats.

Vitalité Health Network first made the announcement in a post on Facebook just before 11 a.m. Monday.

It said access control measures were in place at the hospital entrance following an “incident.”

Patients with appointments could still access the hospital and emergency services were still in place, however general visits were temporarily suspended.

Vitalité said the measures were in place to ensure the safety of patients, employees and the public.

Just before 1 p.m., the health authority said the access control measures were lifted.

“A return to normal operations is confirmed,” it said in an email.

“These measures had been implemented due to a situation deemed to be of concern. Follow-up is continuing in collaboration with the Network’s Security Services and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).”

Police say they responded to a report of threats made towards staff at the hospital around 9 a.m.

“When police arrived, they determined that the person who had made the threats had left the facility, and that there was no on-going threat to the staff or general public,” the RCMP told CTV Atlantic.
