2 men arrested, charged with manslaughter in connection with fatal N.B. home invasion

Two men have been charged in connection to a fatal New Brunswick home invasion last winter.

Two men are in custody and facing several charges, including manslaughter, following a fatal home invasion outside Moncton, N.B., earlier this year.

Codi Martin, 33, and Joshua Carvell, 39, both of Fredericton, were arrested on Thursday in connection with the Feb. 6 incident.

The RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion on Isaiah Road in Berry Mills just before 6 a.m.

Three people allegedly forced their way into the home where a man and woman, both in their 30s, were inside.

An altercation ensued and one man died at the scene.

The RCMP confirmed it was a targeted incident and the victim was one of the three suspects.

He was later identified as 35-year-old Brian Justin Johnson, originally of Halifax.

Police said the two other suspects fled the scene in a black 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 before they arrived.

The RCMP also put out an Alert Ready message about two men “carrying a firearm with dangerous intent” around 7:30 a.m. It was lifted that afternoon.

Police initially said they were looking for the Dodge Ram and a light-coloured Ford F150.

A few days later, police said they were no longer searching for the Dodge Ram and they recovered the Ford F150, which was blue.

Martin and Carvell have both appeared in Moncton provincial court to face the following charges:

• manslaughter
• armed robbery
• break and enter
• disguise with intent
• forcible confinement
• reckless discharge of a firearm
• possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition
• possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
• unauthorized possession of a firearm
• possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
• careless use of a firearm
• using a firearm in the commission of an offence

They remain in custody and are scheduled to reappear in Moncton court on Thursday.
