Two dead after collision in Cocagne: N.B. RCMP

A 62-year-old man from Tracadie, N.B., and a 31-year-old man from Stymiest, N.B., have died following a two-vehicle collision in Cocagne, N.B.

Police say officers received a crash notification from a cellphone, indicating a motor vehicle incident had occurred on the bridge crossing the Cocagne River, on Route 11 on Friday around 2:15 a.m.

A short time later, an individual called 911 to report the collision.

When officers arrived at the scene, they confirmed a head-on collision had occurred, and the drivers of each of the two vehicles died at the scene as a result of their injuries, according to a release from the RCMP.

One passenger was transported to hospital with what police believe to be serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say an RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene along with members of Ambulance New Brunswick, the Cocagne and Saint-Antoine fire departments, and the New Brunswick Coroner’s Office.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
