Rain clears Rain will continue to clear from the Maritimes Friday evening and night. The last of it will leave Cape Breton, N.S., early Saturday morning. The system has brought a widespread 15 to 40 mm of rain to the Maritimes, with pockets of 40 to 60 mm. A few viewers in the region have sent in reports of even higher amounts, including a rain gauge measurement of near 80 mm from Springfield, N.B. Sunnier Saturday The region will break to warmer, sunnier conditions Saturday. Fog patches should dissipate early in the morning with a mix of sun and cloud for the afternoon. There’s a low chance of afternoon showers for communities in western New Brunswick. High temperatures on Saturday will reach the low-to-mid teens for most of the Maritimes. The next round of inclement weather arrives on Sunday. Sunday, rainy Sunday A low-pressure moving north of the Carolinas will cross Nova Scotia and move into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Rain from the system will arrive in the southwest of Nova Scotia as early as Sunday morning, then develop across the Maritimes through Sunday afternoon. The rain should clear Sunday evening and night. The system packs in a good amount of moisture off the Atlantic. Rain amounts could total 20 to 40 mm across much of Nova Scotia, southeastern New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. Lower rain totals are expected in parts of northern and western New Brunswick. Computer guidance indicates this will be stronger low-pressure system with the barometric pressure falling towards 980 millibars as it approaches the Atlantic coastline of Nova Scotia Sunday afternoon. That allows for possible higher winds for parts of the Maritimes. Residents should be cautious of gusts reaching 50 to 70 km/h for coastal areas of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island Sunday afternoon through the evening. Fair weather and warmer temperatures are expected to return Monday through Wednesday of next week.
