Storm Headed for Newfoundland

Here's a look at where I believe the low will sit at 8 am Friday.

Some people are asking about a Friday storm.  I see that there are old storm time-lines being shared on social media. Please don’t share any weather related information if you’re not 100% sure that it is current!

All week, I have been watching a developing storm that formed in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. It is expected to track northeastward, well east of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, then pass east of New England and remain well off our coastline!

My thoughts on snowfall remain unchanged at this hour:

New Brunswick:

3-5 cm Grand Manan, Saint John;  2 cm for the Moncton area;  a dusting for Fredericton.

Northern NB could get 5-7 cm of snow from a system sliding north of the region on Friday.

Nova Scotia:

Highest amounts: south shore to Halifax and eastern shore:  5-10 cm

5-7 cm for eastern Cape Breton;  5 cm for the Valley; 3-5 cm for SW NS; 2 cm for Yarmouth

Prince Edward Island:

2-4 cm; gusty NE winds

The system will develop into a Nor’easter as it heads to Newfoundland.  It looks like it will pass east of the Avalon.  Because the storm will spend so much time over the water, with very little friction, offshore winds will be an issue for Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

Generally speaking the snow will start during the morning hours and end overnight;  a later start time of course for Cape Breton and PEI.
