Nova Scotia sending firefighters to help crews in New Brunswick

Nova Scotia is sending a crew of firefighters to help New Brunswick battle an out-of-control wildfire.

Nova Scotia says 20 firefighters and a representative from the Department of Natural Resources have been assigned to the Irishtown fire near Moncton. That fire grew from 30 hectares to 54 hectares on Monday.

People in the area have been told to be prepared to evacuate on short notice.

“Our neighbours in New Brunswick gave us tremendous support during the large wildfires in 2023 and we want to help them in their time of need,” said Tory Rushton, minister of Natural Resources, in a news release. “Although we’re sending crews out almost every day to fight small fires around Nova Scotia, we are able to spare one crew for our neighbours. It’s the right thing to do.”

Earlier this year Nova Scotia sent crews to Saskatchewan to help combat wildfires.
