N.B., P.E.I. gas prices going up, Nova Scotia changing prices Saturday

Gas prices are still being adjusted across the Maritimes.

The price of gas increased overnight in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island while Nova Scotia says it will be changing prices on Saturday.

Nova Scotia

The minimum price of regular self-serve gasoline in the Halifax area remained at 162.0 cents per litre on Friday.

Prices increased on Monday after the interrupter clause was invoked.

The price of diesel decreased by 5.3 cents per litre overnight to a new minimum price of 211.1 cents per litre.

In Cape Breton, the price of regular self-serve gasoline is still 163.9 cents per litre, and the price of diesel is now 213.0 cents per litre.

The Nova Scotia Energy Board said it would use the interrupter mechanism to change the price of all grades of gasoline and diesel oil at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday due to “significant shifts in the market prices.”

Prince Edward Island

On P.E.I., the price of regular gasoline increased overnight by 2.9 cents following an unscheduled decrease earlier this week.

The new minimum price is 169.4 cents per litre.

Diesel prices increased by 5.2 cents. The minimum price is now 219.0 cents per litre.

New Brunswick

The price of regular self-serve gasoline in New Brunswick increased by 7.1 cents per litre to a new maximum price of 163.3 cents per litre.

The price of diesel decreased by 3.5 cents. The new maximum price is 216.4 cents per litre.

‘It’s really hard’: Locals react to rising prices

The Racetrac gas station in Moncton, N.B., was a busy place Friday morning.

Owner Mike Wilson said the war in Iran isn’t really having a big impact on his business, but he knows his customers are certainly feeling it.

“It’s definitely putting the price of fuel through the roof. It goes up, it comes down, it doesn’t really change us,” said Wilson. “Customers know they just have to pay it. There’s no way around it.”

J.P. Blanchard said the cost of fuel is impacting his overall budget and he’s having a hard time paying for all the necessities of life.

“Yesterday, it wasn’t this high. It went up a lot. It’s just a lot of money and some of us really don’t have all the funds in the world to take care of the price of gas,” said Blanchard. “You almost have to forget about it to try and live a happy life, but it’s really hard.”

Serge Leger said it’s a little harder paying for the gas lately.

“It was at $1.40, I use supreme, and not it’s $1.77, so it is coming out of my pocket a little heavier,” said Leger. “I feel it’s going to go up a little more. That’s how I feel. We’ll see. Time will tell.”

Chris Albert drives 15 minutes on the highway every day to get to work and the gas price surge is tough on the pocketbook.

“That’s half an hour back and forth so it’s a lot of gas. It adds up. It doesn’t help if you live in more rural areas, then you have to drive further,” said Albert.

Duane Cook said the jump in fuel costs are impacting him “big time” money-wise.

“It’s something that you need, right? You’re going to pay whatever the price is, pretty well,” said Cook.
