More ferry crossings cancelled due to wet, windy weather in Atlantic Canada

Ferry crossings continue to be cancelled in Atlantic Canada thanks to another wet and windy low-pressure system arriving Wednesday night into Thursday.

Nova Scotia-Newfoundland

Marine Atlantic cancelled the 11:45 a.m. Wednesday departures for North Sydney, N.S., and Port aux Basques, N.L.

All crossings for Thursday are cancelled, as well as the 11:45 a.m. departures for Friday.

Prince Edward Island-Nova Scotia

Wednesday morning crossings between Wood Islands, P.E.I., and Caribou, N.S., were cancelled.

Northumberland Ferries later announced all remaining sailings would be cancelled as well.

Nova Scotia-New Brunswick

There are currently no cancellations or delays for the ferry service between Digby, N.S., and Saint John, N.B.

Weather alerts

There are no weather alerts in effect for the Maritimes.

However, CTV Atlantic meteorologist Kalin Mitchell says the highest amounts of rain from the latest system, ranging from 30 to 60 mm, are expected in eastern areas of Nova Scotia.

Wind gusts on the southwestern coastline of Nova Scotia are also forecasted to peak in a range of 50 to 70 km/h by early Thursday morning.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, wind warnings and special weather statements are in place, warning of the “intense” low pressure system that will stall over the Atlantic before drifting back towards Labrador later this week.
