N.S. prison temporarily locked down after inmate assaulted

An inmate was the victim of assault at Springhill Institution, a medium security federal prison in Springhill, N.S., on Jan. 4, said a news release from Correctional Service of Canada.

Staff assessed he injured inmate who was transported to an outside hospital for treatment.

The assailant was identified and “appropriate actions have been taken,” said the release.

Correctional services said they are reviewing the incident to improve practices and prevent similar incidents.

The facility was placed under a temporary lockdown to ensure safety and security but normal operations have resumed, said the release.
