Home damaged, family pet dies in Kentville, N.S., house fire

A home is damaged and a family pet has died following a fire in Kentville, N.S., Thursday night. (Bill Roberts)

A home is damaged and a family pet has died following a fire in Kentville, N.S., Thursday night.

Ian Fairclough, deputy chief of the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department, says crews responded to the house fire on Bezanson Court around 10:45 p.m.

There were two cats in the home and one of them died in the fire.

There were no other injuries.

Fairclough says the fire was in the kitchen area and there is smoke damage to the home.

The fire was extinguished around 12:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
