A Nova Scotia teen has kicked his way into Queen's University on a football scholarship.

Nick Liberatore says his Dartmouth, N.S. high school didn't have a film program that could produce a highlight reel to showcase to university football coaches, so he took matters into his own hands.

Liberatore and his friend Hayden Hicks Redden produced two videos, highlighting the 17-year-old's skills, which ended up catching someone’s eye at the Queen's University football team.

"We had to go out and take it upon ourselves," Liberatore told CTV News Channel on Wednesday. "And luckily, with the help of my great friends, they were able to help me."

Hicks Redden filmed and edited the videos. They had fun, he said, but it was a long process.

"One shot we were trying, we were on it for two days," he said.

Approximately 100 hours of filming and editing went into the final products.

The video captures Liberatore punting the football into basketball nets, over rivers, and in one shot he manages to kick a bottle off someone's head.

The two say while they're attending different universities in September – Hicks Redden has enrolled at St. Mary's University in Halifax – but they plan on collaborating on more highlight reels in the future.
