SAINT-GERVAIS-LES-BAINS, France -- Tour de France leader Chris Froome has crashed on a descent during the 19th stage after his bike slipped on road paint.

The two-time champion was able to continue racing after teammate Geraint Thomas gave him his bike.

The 146-kilometre ride features four ascents in the Alps and has been marred by several crashes on roads made slippery by rain.

Second-placed Bauke Mollema also crashed at a roundabout.

With his yellow jersey now torn, cuts and bruises on his back and blood on his right elbow, Froome looked uncomfortable on Thomas' bike. But Froome caught up with the group of favourites before the brutal final climb to Le Bettex with the help of teammate Wouter Poels and his yellow jersey did not appear under immediate threat.

Froome led Mollema by 3 minutes and 52 seconds before the stage started.
