How did you woo your first grade-school crush? Hair-pulling? Teasing? Love letters?

One romantic fifth-grader's love note would probably put yours to shame, with its poignant imagery evoking an evening sky, broken glass, the Legend of Zelda and Pokemon.

Reddit user dreichert87 shared the first love note received by his young niece on Tuesday, showing off the artful poetry employed by a love-sick fifth-grader out to capture the little girl's heart.

The letter, addressed to "Abby," begins with a rather standard comparison. "Your eyes remind me of the evening sky."

Then, Abby's admirer goes for the really romantic stuff.

"My heart felt like broken glass until I saw you," he writes. "And then, I felt like I had every Pokemon ever. I love how you play Zelda even when peolple (sic) think it's wierd (sic). If you liked me it would be my first victory."

The boy's spelling might leave something to be desired, but he deserves some extra credit for dotting every single "i" in the letter with a heart. For extra romance.

The young poet's first initial is "W" but the rest of his name is blocked out in the photo. However, one Reddit commenter had a theory about the boy's full name: "No need to cover the name. Clearly (William) Shakespeare."

The post has received nearly 3,000 comments and more than 6,000 up-votes (positive clicks) on Reddit.

In a follow-up comment, dreichert87 says Abby declined her admirer's advances because he "has previously hit a girl at school."

"She said she will still remain friends and they continue to talk about Zelda in art class," he wrote, adding that he does not have "official confirmation" that the hitting incident happened.

"Elementary kids do as elementary kids do," dreichert87 said.
