BATHURST, N.B. -- Officials are investigating a house fire that killed a 16-year-old boy and displaced his family in New Brunswick.

The Canadian Red Cross says it is helping the family of five in Bathurst after the fire was reported at about 4 a.m. Tuesday.

The couple and three of the children, ranging in age from eight to 17, were not home at the time.

But, the 16-year-old boy was believed to be sleeping in a basement bedroom which sustained the most damage.
