Police in London, Ont. are on the hunt for a so-called “Amazon bandit” after surveillance video uploaded to YouTube shows an Amazon package being taken from a home’s front step.

YouTube user Anthony Taylor posted a short video titled “The Amazon Bandit” on April 22, which shows a woman in a hooded sweatshirt calmly riding her bike onto a driveway in the city’s north end before she disembarks and walks up to the home’s front door.

In the video, she is seen grabbing the cardboard box sitting on the front porch and placing it inside of her backpack. The woman then puts on the backpack and takes off on her bike.

The popular video is trending on YouTube and has received more than 107,000 views.

Const. Sandasha Bough, a communications officer for the London Police Service, confirmed to CTVNews.ca that the homeowner filed a police report with them before the video was posted online.

According to the time stamp on the surveillance video, the alleged theft happened on April 12 at around 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon. The Criminal Investigation Division is investigating.

The homeowner, Anthony Taylor, told CTVNews.ca in an email on Wednesday that the package contained a $30 T-shirt he bought online as a gift for his sister’s boyfriend.

“My main issue is I order things frequently from Amazon and I am just lucky that this time it was a low value item,” he wrote.

Taylor said he initially thought the package was late or had been delivered to the wrong address, which is why he checked his home’s security camera footage and noticed the woman. He said he thinks the video has gained so much attention because it “hits close to home.”

“We all have packages delivered to the front door when we are not home” he wrote.

Police released multiple photos of the woman and appealed to the public for help in identifying her.

Anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to contact the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
