HALIFAX -- Three inmates in Newfoundland and Labrador's largest prison are facing charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon after a violent incident at the penitentiary.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary say charges are being laid in relation to an attack on a 28-year-old inmate at Her Majesty's Penitentiary on Sunday.
Police say the man was struck by a broom handle during the alleged assault by three inmates.
The victim was treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries and returned to the jail.
All three of the men charged are expected in provincial court today.
