TORONTO -- Five things to watch this week in Canadian business:
Home Sales: The Canadian Real Estate Association will release the July home sales figures on Monday. The pace of sales throughout the country stalled somewhat in June, including in the hot markets of Toronto and Vancouver.
Energy East: The National Energy Board hearings into the proposed $15.7-billion Energy East Pipeline moves to Fredericton on Monday after a week in Saint John, N.B. At last week's hearings, TransCanada says it would "strive to reach consent" on the project with First Nations. First Nations in Atlantic Canada did not cede their lands to the Crown as they did in other parts of Canada.
The Economy: Several batches of data come out this week that will offer fresh insight into the state of the economy. On Tuesday, Statistics Canada will release its monthly survey for manufacturing, a sector that has struggled this year. The federal agency is out on Friday with the latest figures on inflation and retail trade.
Border Control: In Toronto on Wednesday, the NATO Association of Canada hosts a panel discussion on mass migration and border controls in the European Union. With an increasing flow of migrants into Europe, tensions are running high as member states rush to impose their own individual border controls.
Ministers Meet: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hosts a two-day cabinet retreat in Sudbury, Ont., that starts on Saturday. The economy is expected to be a key topic of discussion.
