A Toronto-bound Air Canada flight was forced to divert to Ireland after a passenger became disruptive.

Flight AC877, which left Frankfurt for Toronto, was forced to land at Ireland's Shannon Airport Friday, so the passenger could be removed from the aircraft, Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick told CTVNews.ca.

After the passenger was removed, the Boeing 777 subsequently departed and completed its journey. It was carrying 211 passengers.

The flight diversion took place on the same day another incident occurred on an Air Canada flight.

A passenger aboard an Air Canada flight from Toronto to Atlanta allegedly tried to strangle Ottawa Fury forward Oliver Minatel Friday afternoon.

The man was restrained by another passenger, and was taken for "mental/medical" evaluation after the plane touched down in Atlanta.

Minatel did not suffer any serious injuries, and is expected to play in a scheduled soccer game on Saturday night.
