POINT EDWARD, Ont. -- Workers at the Blue Water Bridge -- which links Point Edward, Ont., and Port Huron, Mich. -- are set to go on strike Monday morning.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada represents 47 workers at the bridge and says after being unable to reach a contract with the Federal Bridge Corporation it plans to begin a strike at 6 a.m. Monday.

The union says the employer wanted cuts to workers' benefits and demanded major concessions that would have set workers back years.

The Federal Bridge Corporation claims PSAC refused to negotiate in good faith throughout the bargaining process.

It says the Blue Water Bridge will remain open and the traffic flow will be maintained throughout the labour disruption.

The bridge is a major link between Canada and the U.S. and carries in excess of 15,000 vehicles on peak days.
