Terrafugia, developers of the Transition flying car, have revealed an updated prototype of their follow-up model, the TF-X (see photos).

Unlike the more conventional Transition, the TF-X will be able to take off and land vertically and even come equipped with an “auto-landing” feature.

The street-legal, four-passenger TF-X is meant to fit in a standard single-car garage, and should take about five hours to learn to fly, the company says. The TF-X will take some eight to 12 years to fully develop, according to the company.

Their first flying car, the Transition, was first announced in 2013 and was due out 2015 or 2016, but has since been delayed a couple more years. That car was initially going to sell for about $279,000 USD.

The new TF-X, or more specifically, a one-tenth model of it, is currently undergoing wind tunnel testing.
