BMW is set to make its mark on this year's Salone del Mobile with an installation by Swiss designer Alfredo Häberli.

Inspired by his personal recollections and experience of cars, Häberli will base the installation around the themes of mobility and luxury, using the concept of highly automated control as a backdrop for the piece.

Titled "Spheres.Perspectives in Precision & Poetry for BMW designed by Alfredo Häberli," the installation, which will explore how we use and shape motion and encounter time and space, will feature a large abstract object representing the lightness of forward motion.

The project has been more than six months in the making, within the BMW Group's development laboratories and model workshops.

"The installation is a three-dimensional discourse on the theme ‘Precision & Poetry' -- combined with my poetic response to the theme of luxury," says Häberli of his work.

Liberated from technical constraints and abandoning the material realm, Alfredo Häberli has succeeded in developing a new understanding of mobility -- one that can be experienced in Milan in a quite unique way.

The installation will be on show at Salone del Mobile, Milan, April 14-19.
