A wedding from over the weekend could be described as being memorable, but for all the wrong reasons. A brawl broke out at the event in Westlake, Ohio last Friday, with cell phone video capturing one man waving a butter knife in the middle of the action. The general manager of banquet hall called authorities to alert them of a fight that broke out at the wedding. Video shows a crowd of people filing out of the venue’s front doors and into the parking lot as officers responded. Police say several people were involved in the fight, including one with a weapon, which turned out to be a butter knife that was taken from a place setting. Footage from the incident shows him waving the piece of cutlery in his hand. Officers say that when they arrived, 45 people were in the parking lot, prompting them to call for backup. Body camera footage shows officers speaking to one of the guests. “We were dancing, and four brothers jumped on us,” one man told police, according to Cleveland’s News 5. Two people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. In the end, three men were arrested, including the man with the butter knife, who was a 46-year-old from Michigan. He was charged with misdemeanor assault, inducing panic and tampering with evidence. A 48-year-old from Westlake was charged with menacing, while a 47-year-old Cleveland man was arrested for violating a temporary protection order. Police say one man attending the wedding wasn’t allowed to be around certain other people who were there, because of past altercations that they had. More charges are possible, investigators say. “Don’t spoil someone else’s wedding,” said Capt. Jerry Vogel with Westlake Police Department. “Now these people, unfortunately, they’re always going to be remembered for a wedding where there was a melee and the fights involved. “They’re not going to remember the good parts of it, they’re going to remember the bad parts,” he added.
