Woman tied up during Gimli home invasion: Manitoba RCMP

Two women are facing charges following a horrifying home invasion near Gimli over the weekend.

A Manitoba woman was tied up with extension cords and threatened with a knife during a home invasion north of Gimli earlier this month, and two women are now facing multiple charges.

RCMP said they received a call on January 10 at 8:40 a.m. from a man reporting a home invasion at his residence, about three kilometres north of Gimli.

The 50-year-old man was in Winnipeg when he saw “unusual activity” on his surveillance cameras, according to Mounties, and returned home to find his 51-year-old wife tied up on the floor.

Two women—who had been staying in a guest house on the property for about a week and were known to the owners—are alleged to have broken into the main residence earlier that morning.

RCMP said the two suspects are alleged to have assaulted the 51-year-old woman, threatening her with a knife and tying her up with extension cords. The woman was tied up for about three hours, RCMP said.

The suspects fled in a stolen car from the property, according to RCMP. The vehicle was found later that afternoon abandoned in the Gimli Industrial Park.

A 27-year-old suspect turned herself in to the Gimli RCMP detachment on January 14 and was placed under arrest. RCMP said officers located the second suspect, a 47-year-old woman, at a home in Gimli later that day.

Both suspects remain in custody and have been charged with several offences, including forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, robbery, breaking and entering, and theft of a motor vehicle.

Gimli RCMP continue to investigate, and none of the charges have been tested in court.
