‘Suspicious package’ at Manitoba airport contained $200K of cocaine, police say

RCMP have laid charges after finding a significant quantity of cocaine in a television box.

A package set to be shipped to a northern Manitoba community was found to contain hundreds of thousands of dollars concealed inside a television.

Manitoba RCMP say they were called to the Thompson Airport on Monday for a report of a suspicious package.

Officers say it was scheduled to be shipped to Bunibonibee Cree Nation, a fly-in First Nation community southeast of Thompson.

Police examined the package and found a television with several tightly wrapped packages inside.

Mounties say the packages had nearly half a kilogram of cocaine, which has an estimated community street value of over $222,000.

According to officers, the investigation led to the arrest of a 55-year-old Bunibonibee woman, who was remanded into custody on a charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

RCMP continue to investigate.

The charge has not been tested in court.
