Though spring is well underway, it isn’t stopping Mother Nature from bringing a wallop of winter weather to Manitoba. As of Thursday morning, much of northern Manitoba is under a blizzard warning. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), blizzard conditions are expected to bring between 30 and 50 centimetres of snow and wind gusts as strong as 80 km/h to the area. The spring storm will begin on Thursday and continue into Saturday. The weather agency urges residents to avoid travel and outdoor activities, if possible. Freezing rain headed to central Manitoba ECCC has also issued a freezing rain warning for central Manitoba. The weather agency notes a spring storm will bring frozen droplets and ice build-up to the area, with amounts potentially exceeding five millimetres. Environment Canada says the freezing rain is expected to continue throughout the day on Thursday. Drivers are warned the weather conditions will likely create dangerous travel conditions. Utility outages are also likely.
