The City of Winnipeg has dropped the speed limit on a section of Wellington Crescent from 50 km/h to 40 km/h. According to a city spokesperson, signage was installed the first week of July after council approved the change on June 26. The new speed limit applies to Wellington Crescent between Academy Road and River Avenue, as well as small sections of River Avenue and Stradbrook Avenue where one-way portions lead in and out of Wellington. The speed limit change comes after a June 2024 crash on Wellington Crescent that left a cyclist dead. The fatal collision has since prompted calls for lower speed limits and dedicated bike lanes.
