A 15-year-old boy from Holmesville made a brief court appearance before a Goderich court this week. The suspect, who was 13 at the time of the offence, pleaded guilty to first degree murder for stabbing an 11-year-old girl to death in Holmesville on July 2, 2024. He pleaded guilty this June. A psychiatric assessment has yet to be completed. During a brief court appearance before a Goderich courtroom on Monday, a judge set another court date for Sept. 1. It’s expected a sentencing date will be set for this fall. The maximum sentence for first degree murder under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is 10 years. Six years behind bars, and four years to be served in the community. During June’s guilty plea, court heard that the 11-year-old victim and then 13-year-old suspect were known to each other, and the suspect was sexually interested in the victim. Court heard that the suspect accessed pornography, more than 2000 times in the eight months leading up the murder. The 11 year old victim, was stabbed more than 70 times.
