Manitoba RCMP are investigating after a vacant mall suffered significant damage from a break-in over the weekend. According to RCMP, officers were called to the vacant Portage la Prairie Mall on Monday morning at roughly 10:30 a.m. Mounties said the building was broken into sometime over the weekend and a suspect or suspects caused extensive damage inside. Most of the glass pane windows inside the building were broken, graffiti was painted on the walls, a large tree inside the mall was cut down and the office and various unoccupied storefronts in the mall were ransacked. RCMP said it does not appear that anything was stolen from the building. The damage to the mall is estimated to be over $100,000. The Portage la Prairie Mall officially closed its doors in 2024. A local ownership group in the city purchased the mall in April 2026. Anyone with information on the vandalism is asked to call RCMP at 204-857-4445.
