Suspects broke into remote lodge, camped out over winter months while hunting caribou: RCMP

The Manitoba RCMP is investigating after suspects allegedly broke into a remote fly-in lodge and stayed there over the winter months.

The investigation began on April 14, when Mounties received a report of a break-and-enter at a privately owned fly-in lodge near Nueltin Lake, which is located about 30 kilometres south of the Manitoba-Nunavut border.

According to police, several cottages were broken into, with many of them sustaining considerable damage.

Police allege the suspects appear to have camped out at the lodge over the winter months while hunting caribou.

Officers flew to the lodge to examine the scene.

RCMP continues to investigate the break-ins and property damage, while the Manitoba Conservation Officer Service is investigating the harvesting of caribou.
