A stalled low pressure system is expected to soak a portion of Manitoba with as much as 80 mm of rain by week’s end. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued yellow rainfall warnings early Thursday morning for a large portion of northeastern Manitoba, including Thompson, Island Lake, Gillam and Shamattawa. The weather agency warns precipitation is expected to begin Thursday, bringing anywhere from 30 to 50 mm by Friday morning. Another 20 to 30 mm could come by Sunday afternoon. “Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Fast-moving and rapidly rising water can sweep vehicles away and damage infrastructure,” ECCC warned. This is a developing story. More details to come.
