Manitoba RCMP say a traffic stop on the Trans-Canada Highway led to the discovery of nearly $1 million in cash and the arrest of two people from Ontario. According to police, an officer was driving west on Highway 1 around 8:50 p.m. on July 31 when an eastbound vehicle was seen travelling at a high rate of speed. Radar clocked the vehicle at 129 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone, RCMP said. The vehicle was stopped as it reached Brandon. During the traffic stop, investigators searched the vehicle and located multiple bags containing a large quantity of Canadian currency. Police say the total amount of cash seized from the vehicle was approximately $970,000. Both the driver and a passenger were arrested. A 22-year-old from Toronto and a 44-year-old from Stouffville, Ont., have each been charged with possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking over $5,000. Both were later released on a release order. Manitoba RCMP say the investigation is ongoing. None of the charges have been proven in court.
