A 23-year-old man has been charged following what police described as a hate-motivated attack on a mother and her two children in Metro Vancouver. Langley RCMP say they received multiple reports from witnesses at around 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 about a man assaulting the woman and her children while uttering racial slurs. Officers responded to the scene near Douglas Park in Langley City, but police said the suspect fled before officers arrived. A suspect was arrested the following day after police identified a man “closely matching the description of the suspect,” the Langley RCMP said in a news release Monday. Braden Perozny was held in police custody and has since been charged with three counts of assault and three counts of committing an offence motivated by hatred, according to the release. Cpl. Mansoor Sahak described the incident as “deeply concerning,” saying in a statement the department’s “thoughts are with the woman and her family as they continue to receive support.” Sahak thanked the members of the public who came forward to provide information about the incident to investigators. Perozny remains in police custody pending a bail hearing. Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
