Missing Ont. man declared deceased, police searching for remains

A Kenora resident is facing a charge of Indignity to a dead body, but the missing man’s remains haven’t yet been found.

Kenora police said Mekhi Pelly Scott, 21, was last seen in Kenora sometime between Friday, October 10 and Sunday, October 12.

In a release sent Monday, police said Pelly Scott died.

A Kenora man is facing a charge of Indignity to a dead body. Terry Cherry, 24, was arrested and charged. He was set to appear in a Thunder Bay courtroom Monday.

Pelly Scott’s remains have not been located.

Police said its the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, OPP Canine Unit, and the Emergency Response Team are searching for his remains. The service said Treaty Three Police Service, Kenora Makwa Patrol, and community members were assisting.

Pelly Scott, who was from Grassy Narrows First Nation, was reported missing Friday, Oct. 26. In a release sent Oct. 26, Kenora police said it was not ruling out foul play.
