A trio of buildings in downtown Winnipeg, including a renovated theatre, have been listed for sale. According to a listing from Colliers’, the Somerset Building and the Metropolitan Entertainment Centre are up for sale. The listing says the Somerset Building and the Metropolitan Entertainment Centre can be purchased together, separately, or as part of a downtown campus “style portfolio” along with the Radisson Hotel on Portage Avenue, which connects with the Somerset Building. “The three assets form a contiguous downtown campus — offering a buyer the opportunity to strategically assemble connected real estate that reinforces group, corporate and event demand well into the future,” the listing from Colliers reads. The Metropolitan Entertainment Centre, according to documents from Colliers, was originally built in 1919 as the Allen Theatre and became a national historic site in 1991. It was purchased by Canad Inns founder Leo Ledohowski in 2007, who did a full overhaul of the inside and added a rooftop patio, three additional stories of building, and a new entrance. The Somerset Building was built in 1908 and has a skywalk that connects to Canada Life Centre and the Radisson Hotel. As of June 2026, the building has a 53 per cent occupancy and is home to several organizations, including Manitoba Youth Employment Services. All three buildings are currently owned by Canad Inns. CTV News has reached out to Canad Inns for comment. The news comes after several other buildings in downtown have explored sales, including the Fort Garry Hotel and the IG Wealth Management building. Kate Fenske, the CEO of Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, says downtown is always evolving, and they remain focused on businesses and people setting up shop in the core. “Businesses need to make decisions that are in the best interests of their operations, and there will always be changes in the downtown market,” Fenske said in a statement. “What we’re seeing on Portage Avenue isn’t a single story of decline—it’s a corridor in transition. “There are real challenges today, including public safety concerns and changing market conditions. At the same time, Portage Avenue is seeing significant redevelopment, major institutional investment, new housing, adaptive reuse of vacant buildings, and future amenities that will reshape the corridor over the coming years.”
