A southern Manitoba church and school are the latest sites for measles exposures in the province. On Tuesday, the province announced a measles exposure at the New Life Fellowship Church in Hochfeld, Man., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 7. A second exposure was reported at the New Life Fellowship School the following day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Public health officials are asking anyone who was at these locations at these times to check their immunization records and monitor for symptoms for three weeks. The province noted that measles symptoms usually appear within seven to 21 days of exposure. Initial symptoms include fever, runny nose, drowsiness, irritability, and red eyes. Small white spots can also develop on the inside of the mouth or throat. Following the initial symptoms, a red blotchy rash appears on the face and moves down the body. Measles can lead to complications, including ear infections, diarrhea, pneumonia, and encephalitis. More information on measles, exposures and immunization can be found online.
