An online disciplinary registry for Manitoba teachers now allows anyone to see when an investigation is underway. The Registry of Certified Teachers and School Clinicians was released last year. It enables the public to search certified teachers and school clinicians by name and see whether they have had their certificate suspended or cancelled. According to a Thursday news release from the province, the change will help provide parents with a greater sense of transparency. “Teachers and clinicians who have agreed to stop teaching or practising will have a status of ‘voluntarily surrendered’ displayed on the registry until a final determination is made,” the province said. The status would be removed once the issue is resolved and the teacher is exonerated or has their certificate suspended or cancelled. The change will make Manitoba’s system in line with other provinces, including Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia.
