Manitoba weather forecast: Are thunderstorms possible again?

After tornado-warned thunderstorms roared close to Winnipeg on Wednesday, another round of storms could cross southern Manitoba on Thursday.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says there were many reports of funnel clouds, but no confirmed tornado touchdowns during Wednesday’s storms at this point in its investigation.

The agency added that hail the size of golf balls was reported around Stonewall.

A low pressure disturbance is set to move into southwestern Manitoba Thursday afternoon that could trigger more showers and thunderstorms. They will continue to spread east throughout the evening and could reach Winnipeg by late tonight or overnight.

Daytime highs across the south will climb to the upper 20s Thursday afternoon.

Smoke has also returned to Winnipeg and Brandon from northern areas. ECCC has issued an air quality warning for both cities and most of southern Manitoba.

The weather agency says south winds will strengthen late Friday, which may send smoke back north, where air quality warnings continue for several regions.

Much of the north will reach highs in the low 20s Thursday afternoon, while temperatures in Churchill and Gillam will fall to a cool 10 C.

The strongest chance of northern showers or thunderstorms is in Norway House and Island Lake.

Back in the south, showers or thunderstorms are likely to return on Friday before sunshine on the weekend.
