Manitoba weather: Alberta clipper rolling through

A fast-moving Alberta clipper is bringing light snow to Winnipeg and southern Manitoba on Tuesday.

By their nature, clippers move quickly. This one is, too. Light snow is expected to end by late Tuesday afternoon or early evening.

Northwest winds will whip up behind the system, which could causing blowing snow tonight, particularly in Winnipeg and the rest of the Red River Valley.

Meanwhile, temperatures are plummeting across northern Manitoba Tuesday afternoon.

Temperatures will fall throughout the day to the upper minus teens and -20s in many areas in strong and gusting northwest winds. Most regions will also likely see a light dusting of snow or flurries.

Meanwhile, Environment and Climate Change Canada has recently revamped its weather alerting system, and has issued a yellow warning for cold weather Tuesday for much of the north.

The weather agency warns that wind chill values of -45 or colder are expected in parts of northern Manitoba Tuesday night. Conditions are expected to moderate Wednesday.

Back in the south, sunshine will return Wednesday, accompanied by much colder temperatures than we’ve experienced in several months. Expect daytime highs in the mid-minus teens.

A new low pressure system will bring the next round of snow to Brandon and the southwest by Wednesday night, before spreading to Winnipeg and southeast on Thursday. Snowfall amounts are not expected to be significant.
