Temperatures are finally beginning to rebound throughout southern Manitoba after a particularly cool and cloudy stretch. Daytime highs across Winnipeg and the surrounding Red River Valley on Wednesday are expected to reach the upper teens under a mix of sun and cloud. Still, winds will be fairly intense out of the south at 30 km/h, gusting at times to 50 km/h. Temperatures will be similar in areas of southwest Manitoba. However, skies are cloudier as a low pressure system begins pushing into the region. As such, much of this neck of woods, including Brandon and Dauphin, have a low chance of rain or thunderstorm activity this afternoon. Winds will be similarly strong through that part of the province as well. Skies are sunny and lovely through much of northern Manitoba on Wednesday with similar highs expected in the upper teens. Winds are light and not much of a factor. There is a slight chance of some scattered showers or rain in and around the Thompson area. If it materializes, it will be disorganized and insignificant in terms of length or accumulation. Skies throughout the northwest stay clear overnight, while a stray cloud or two is likely in the northwest. Temperatures dip to a few degrees above freezing as winds remain light. However, the low pressure system that’s brewing in Saskatchewan is likely to move east into southern Manitoba overnight, bringing a strong likelihood of showers and non-severe thunderstorm activity. Southerly winds will stay strong, as well. Temperatures throughout the south stay mild, dipping to the low teens. That system is expected to linger into Thursday in southern portions of the province, including Winnipeg, Brandon and Dauphin, though the instability will be largely gone, meaning so is the chance of thunderstorms. Still, rain could taper off into the afternoon in Winnipeg and the surrounding Red River Valley, leaving behind mostly cloudy skies and those doggedly strong southerly winds. Despite the sogginess, temperatures are expected to improve slightly into Thursday, with a high of 20 C expected in Winnipeg—a hair cooler than what’s typical for this time of year. Northern Manitoba continues with sunshine into Thursday paired with calm winds and temperatures peaking in the upper teens in the northwest and a few degrees cooler in the northeast. Once the low pressure system clears overnight Thursday in the south, plenty of sunshine and soaring temperatures continue in the back half of the week through southern Manitoba. In fact, early forecasting for the start of next week shows Winnipeg cracking the 30 C mark by Monday.
