If you liked what Mother Nature dealt this week, Friday will suit you just fine in Winnipeg and the Red River Valley. We’re expecting another day of a mix of sun and cloud and seasonal highs in the low 20s. Winds will stay fast and furious out of the southeast at 30 km/h, gusting at times to 50 km/h. To the west, that same low pressure system hasn’t budged much since yesterday, bringing more rainfall and thunderstorm activity to the Parklands. Areas like Brandon and Neepawa could also see some scattered showers or thunderstorms. However, the likeliest scenario is mostly cloudy skies with similarly strong southeasterly winds. Highs through this neck of the woods stay slightly cool for this time of year—at around 18 C in Brandon and 16 C in Dauphin. Meanwhile, that same soggy system impacting the southwest is drifting northward. It brings a 60 per cent chance of showers to The Pas this afternoon, and a slimmer chance of precipitation for Flin Flon and Norway House. Temperatures there will peak in the upper teens. Northeastern communities will enjoy sunshine and above seasonal values. For Thompson, that’s 19 C with light winds. Skies remain partly cloudy in that region overnight with temperatures dipping to the low teens. Meanwhile, the low pressure system stretches further into the northwest overnight, bringing a few showers throughout the evening to The Pas, Flin Flon and Norway House. That precipitation is expected to linger into Saturday, too. Similarly, showers are expected to continue overnight through southern Manitoba, including in Dauphin, Brandon, Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie. Strong southeasterly winds persist alongside lows of around 8 C. Winnipeg and the surrounding Red River Valley could wake up to a few more showers on Saturday morning, though they are expected to taper off before noon as skies begin to clear. Temperatures will be a touch cooler, into the upper teens. Winds will be light, at last, and not much of a factor. From there, a major warm-up begins through southern Manitoba by Sunday, with temperatures expected to soar to the upper 20s that day before cracking the 30 C mark by the start of next week. Along with the heat comes plenty of sunshine, as well.
