Kaitlyn Lawes, Kristin Gordon taking break from curling as team splits

Team Kaitlyn Lawes is the latest curling squad to shake things up.

The team announced on Thursday that they are going their separate ways—Lawes and lead Kristin Gordon both plan on taking a year off from competing.

Meanwhile, second Jocelyn Peterman and third Selena Njegovan are looking for other opportunities.

“We are forever grateful for the memories we made together on and off the ice. We jam-packed these 4 years with a lot of training camps, competitions, and fun trips to Iceland, Norway and Japan. We had exponential growth, faced challenges head on, started our families and made lifelong friendships. We are beyond grateful for all of the support we’ve received along the way,” a social media post reads.

Lawes and company capped off their year with an undefeated round robin at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, losing in the final in an extra end to Team Kerri Einarson.

This announcement comes after Team Einarson announced they had parted ways with third Val Sweeting and are now in need of a replacement.

Outside of Manitoba, Alberta’s Team Kayla Skrlik also disbanded earlier this month, and no information has been shared about their plans for the upcoming season.
